Workshop in concept and application of ValueLinks for MSME’s development, UII, DI Yogyakarta, 28 Nov 2008

  • The objectives of this workshop are to enhance participants knowledge about VL concepts and application, to enhance cooperation between components
  • Workshop attended by 130 participants, there are academicians, organizations, local government, students, practices and media. Participants divided into 10 working groups.
  • After the general concept of value chain session, followed by promotion of VL implementation presented by Mr Daniel from GTZ RED, he promote VL for developing vegetable cluster in Magelang, and promotion on Bamboo Crafter Sector in Bantul by Mr hatma Suryoharyo. In this session Mr Andreas also presented results of VCP in GTZ’s project
  • In brainstorming session participants agreed that they have a deeper understanding about industry, started from processing, potency, problems and solution. They said that they learn more about MSME and have knowledge about the success factors to be implemented through direct and real sample. But have to be more detail how to implement it in export oriented products.

Workshop in Rapid Regional Economic Development Through Developing Prime Commodity Development and Strengthening MSME, Surabaya University, East Java, 27 Nov 2008

  • The objectives of this event are; to give information about regional economic development and uniqueness of value chain instrument, to present samples of VL application implementation in Indonesia and in the other country and to shows some testimonial and practices contribution in implementing value chain approaches.
  • ·There are 42 participants, that come from various institutions, local government both provincial and district, company and association. Conducted in Surabaya universities.
  • ·In the first session, participants agreed that VL approached is interesting and should be distributed to other district level, but most of participants are not familiar with English presentation, and they hope that they could get the presentation material in Bahasa, so they could follow the presentation and could be more interactive.
  • Panel session are presented rattan cluster promotion by Mr Hatma Suryoharyo, followed by promotion of VL approaches for policy recommendation to local government by Fachrul Authon from Magelang district. He explained four recommendations that formulated by their local facilitators (FEDEP) to developing their cluster area, and how to build new channeling for those clusters. Participants hope that the presentation added by targeted productivity of FEDEP and they need more explanation about the choice of product, because the product have low multiplier effects.
  • The following session presented VL promotion in Nilam’s oil cluster by Mr Sauqi and Teak furniture cluster by Mr Indra, they already using VL approaches in facilitating cluster development.

VL Workshop at UKSW Salatiga 26-28 Nov 2008


This event is collaborated activities between UKSW, GTZ RED and APTISI central java. Conducted in “Salib Putih” Salatiga, Central java and attended by various participants, including academicians, local government and students. 
The first panel session, presented milk and rattan cluster from Bank of Indonesia, value chain implementation is one of facilitating program from KBI Semarang in rapid assessment on economic program.

Mr. Andreas explained about VL methodology, he started with the explanation about economic development, what is the objective and opportunity, continued with definition about value chain and the importance of value chain. Second, he explained how to promote value chain approaches and who will lead the promotion, he ended the session by practicing how to formulate VL mapping, quantification, opportunities and problems that should be faced, and how to identify the upgrading strategies

The second panelist is from CEMSED FE UKSW, presented by Mr Bayu Wijayanto. He explained about Value links application in strengthening real sectors. He explained about development economic of central java province, the difference of economic growth in two period, period 2005-2006 and 2006-2008. Impact of global economic changes to Indonesian economy and how to implement the value links method in Pandora Key Boxes. 

Value links integration into curriculum presented by Mrs Rus from UKSW, in UKSW, VL will integrate into two lecture subjects, there are international economic and global marketing. VL will be used in research field, VL will integrate to student research (thesis) or through lecturer research. Mrs Sri Sulandjari explained about VL integration into student apprenticeship or fieldwork, the strategy implemented into five degree, there are: (i) internship of entrepreneurs material, (ii) practices in three alternative; internship, apprentice and investing (start up business), (iii) Business incubation, (iv) growth
